Is Excel a database? The answer, for the most part, is no. Whilst Excel can be used to store data in small amounts, it's real purpose is as a spreadsheet i.e. number crunching. Any data stored by Excel is by it's very nature flat file (i.e. every instance must be repeated) and thus for large amounts of data it is totally impracticable. However applications within organisation's often grow organically and what starts out as a small manageable spreadsheet can easily turn into a bulging collection of worksheets crying out to be a database! If this scenario fits your organisation contact us to discuss how best to migrate the data from Excel to a database solution.
